Gunner - day 2
Jul. 27th, 2003 10:33 amWe're thinking a bit more clearly this morning. Gunner ate her supper last night and her breakfast this morning and her abdomen is a bit less bloated this morning. She's not as active as she has been, but she's pretty near her same old self.
Now, I realize that this doesn't mean a miracle has happened over night, but what it does mean is that she's feeling better, and we've decided that as long as she's not suffering and she's enjoying her life, we're going to enjoy it too, so the euthenasia set for tomorrow has been put on hold. This may not be the wisest decision - this may mean that some morning we wake up an find that she's bled out internally and that she's dead at the foot of the bed, but what it also means is that we get a few more days with our wonderful companion. If she takes a turn for the worse and it's obvious she's labouring or struggling in any way, we'll do the honourable thing and won't let he suffer. In the meantime, she's getting to do all the things that we haven't let her do... (just a minute... sob break...) like feeding her steak from the table and letting her sleep on the furniture.
6 months is a prognosis with surgery. 4-8 weeks is the prognosis without. It won't be long, but it probably won't be tomorrow.
