We're thinking a bit more clearly this morning. Gunner ate her supper last night and her breakfast this morning and her abdomen is a bit less bloated this morning. She's not as active as she has been, but she's pretty near her same old self.

Now, I realize that this doesn't mean a miracle has happened over night, but what it does mean is that she's feeling better, and we've decided that as long as she's not suffering and she's enjoying her life, we're going to enjoy it too, so the euthenasia set for tomorrow has been put on hold. This may not be the wisest decision - this may mean that some morning we wake up an find that she's bled out internally and that she's dead at the foot of the bed, but what it also means is that we get a few more days with our wonderful companion. If she takes a turn for the worse and it's obvious she's labouring or struggling in any way, we'll do the honourable thing and won't let he suffer. In the meantime, she's getting to do all the things that we haven't let her do... (just a minute... sob break...) like feeding her steak from the table and letting her sleep on the furniture.

6 months is a prognosis with surgery. 4-8 weeks is the prognosis without. It won't be long, but it probably won't be tomorrow.

Now *there's* a sick dog...

Just watched Gun' run full tilt up the hill to the neighbour's house. Not run, actually, more of a run/gallop/gambol with the odd kicking of heels.

I swear she was smiling.

Holding you in the Light

When Franny Cat was dying (I kept her home because she wasn't in pain and she would have HATED me making her die someplace foreign - as it was she used her last energy to jump into bed with me and die in my arms.) we gave her everything she could possible want. She wasn't drinking water or eating cat food, so we gave her tuna and tuna juice. Everyone came by the house to say good bye to her. She died as she'd lived - happy.

Sounds like Gunner has the same.
