As you may know, I got a DVD player for Christmas.

I've found out that the local blockbuster video can rent me four not new releases for $10 Canadian (that's $142,805.23 US, not a bad deal)

Anyway, everytime I get to the video store my mind goes COMPLETELY blank, and I can't remember any older movies I wanted to see.

Give me some suggestions.

Anything - any genre, anything.

Shakespeare in Love

American Beauty

LA Story (I love Steve Martin)

First Knight

Tomb Raider (the first one)

X-Men (the first one)

Vacation - with Chevy Chase

The first three Lethal Weapon movies(god they are funny and cathartic)

Oldies:
Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant - oh GOOD
Inside Daisy Clover with Natalie Wood and Robert Redford

Try the IMDB and see if they have a sort by Award type thing. Or randomly type in actors you like.

IMDb is great and if they don't have an Award section they do have their Top Movies section which is pretty cool.

I also like to check out which DVD's have "Easter Eggs." Those are extra features that don't show up on the menu - you have to hunt for them (hence the name, Easter Eggs). You can find a lot of DVD related web sites that point them out but my favorite is The Easter Egg Archive.

I dig these kinds of things. There's another place that you can look these up - sort of a.. crap, the name is leaving me at the moment... urban legends, that's it. I'll try to find it when I get back from picking the kid up and post the link.

Parenthood - another great Steve Martin movie

He Said, She Said - Kevin Bacon
(Almost any Kevin Bacon movie from Flatliners to Tremors)

On Golden Pond

The Birdcage

Just about anything with Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act being the best.

How new is not new? Things like Mullholland Drive are excellent, but only a couple of years old..

I dunno, anything not considered a new release at Block Buster - say... 6 - 12 months released on video?

There's a lot that I would recommend but can't think of right now. Two right off the top of my head would be Moulin Rouge and The Others.

Ah, you missed the earlier post that said I got Moulin Rouge for Christmas. It's by far, hands down, the best movie in the world - the only movie I've watched twice in theatres and have watched about 10 times since christmas!

Actually I did see that one but forgot to comment on it. Check out this page for some really cool Easter Eggs on that DVD.
