ANGRY!!

Almost one year ago to the day a little girl named Karissa Boudreau went missing in a very cute little town not far from where I go sailing. Her mother was hysterical. They were together in the car in the parking lot of a grocery store and they had a fight. Her mother went in for groceries and when she got back Karissa was gone. Video of her mother was everywhere - begging for her daughter's safe return. Karissa's body was found a few days later on the river bank not far from where she was seen last.

Today, her mother was found guilty in her murder.

Karissa was a 12 year old girl. Twelve. The Kid is 12. She was TWELVE. I don't understand. Really.

I cannot for the LIFE of me understand.

I cannot imagine anybody I *think* loves me telling me I have to choose between him and The Kid and making THIS choice.

I cannot for the life of me imagine taking The Kid in the car, arguing with her, pushing her down, putting my knee on her chest and STRANGLING HER WITH A PIECE OF ROPE UNTIL SHE STOPPED BREATHING!!! Meanwhile she's saying to me... Mommy Don't.

It is absolutely unimaginable.

And then, taking her body, taking off her pants and underwear to make it look like she was sexually assaulted. And DUMP HER. Leave her there partially clothed for STRANGERS to find.

It actually makes my brain want to break. I can physically feel my brain attempting to break when trying to even imagine it.

Don't get me wrong. I can imagine being angry enough to want to bitch slap her. I haven't ever been that angry or bitch slapped her, but I can imagine it. But this... This is beyond unimaginable.

She'll get 20 years in prison before she's eligible for parole.

I'm... not sure how I feel about that.

Wow.

I cannot understand a woman who would choose a man over a child--especially the kind of monster of a man who would actually give a mother an ultimatum like that. But even if he was the best man on the planet?

No. Just no.

I don't know what the jails are like in Canada, but if she lives to actually qualify for parole, I'd be shocked.

I can understand a lot. I like to think I'm able to empathize pretty well. I can see some guy meeting some girl with a kid and saying either the kid goes or I go, and the woman being so fisked up that she packs the kid off to live with a gramma or her father or even on the streets.

But to do this??? This I canNOT comprehend.

Here in Australia on Thursday a father drove his family of three across the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne. He stopped at the highest point (58 metres), got out, pulled his daughter out of the car, walked to the edge and threw her over. She landed in the water below and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

She was on her way to her first day of school.

She was four years old.

Just when you think you've heard the worst human nature has to offer... someone does this...

Wow.

I'm speachless.

Christ.

(Though when I get over my speachlessness, I'm going to say hi and welcome you to my lj. Where'd ya come from and how'd you find me?)

I know.

The whole country is in shock.

Not much in the way of detail has been released yet so we don't know motive etc, only that earlier in the week an 'amicable' 50/50 custody arrangement had been made between her mum and dad. Whether that was a factor or not is as yet unknown (as far as the general public go anyway).

As for the hi... *waves* HI! I was bored and wandering LJ (actually, that's a lie, I was putting off going to the gym and wandering LJ!!!) and I was going through recent posts by members of ga_fanfic... of which you are one.

Alas, here I am! All the way from Tasmania to your computer screen...

Then welcome. I'm just putting off going to the gym myself, though for me it's an end of the day thing - for you it's bright and early.

C'mon in, make yourself at home and consider yourself welcome. There's beer in the fridge if you're interested and probably enough leftover chips under the sofa to fill up a bowl, as long as you don't mind the dog hairs!

I think, if you don't mind, I'll peruse your journal as well. I've always wanted to visit Australia. Some of the world's best sailing there.

Meanwhile, there are a lot of wierdos out there (referring to the stupid parents, not the odd LJ'r that pops into my journal)

I'm glad you clarified that.

Well, I was good. I'm back from the gym. Quite an accomplishment considering it's about 400 degrees here at the moment!

I will skip the beer if you don't mind (I know, I know, I'm an abberation, an Aussie that doesn't drink beer!!!). But I will take you up on any other alcoholic combo you have on offer!

What?? So I said I don't drink beer, not that I don't drink at all!!! Haha. Not so much of an abberation after all.

As for my journal, good luck! There isn't much there, some random randomness and a whole lotta mediocre fic, that's 'bout it. Oh, and a warning, I like to torture Alex... like... alot. In light of previous conversations I'd just like to clarify, I do my 'weirdo' torture stuff in fic only...

Hmm, what else... oh... Australia... I highly recommend it. The sailing is great. I used to race sabots and my dad used to built and race mirrors. My uncles and cousins all used to do the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the Three Peaks Race.

I've lived on 4 continents and travelled 5 and while I love them all, I do LOVE Australia. Come pay us a visit, we're typically a friendly bunch...

Where 'bouts you from?

Oh...

*investigates*

Nova Scotia. I lived in BC for a year and while I saw a bit of Canada I unfortunately did not make it to NS.
