Fruit Fly Madness
Oct. 4th, 2005 02:44 pmI don't know about the rest of the world, but Nova Scotia right now is a haven for the damn fruit fly.
Y'all remember Madame Drosophila from grade 10 biology, yes? People do lots of genetic research on the little buggers because they reproduced so damn quickly?
Well, there's a whack of them here.
I did a quick google to see what can be done about them. I came across a site that recommended putting a funnel over a jar with a piece of banana in it to attract them. Once they've been captured...
...This simple but effective trap will soon catch any remaining adult flies which can then be killed or released outdoors.
Yes. Fruit Fly Catch and Release.
It's the only humane thing to do, really, isn't it.

Date: 2005-10-05 12:21 pm (UTC)Isn't it 24 hours or something unreasonably short like that?
I mean, you'd have to release them every couple of HOURS in order to preserve any QUALITY of life, wouldn't you?
Yeah--I'm heartless.
