Would you have the technology to make a decent quality (and fairly long) .wav file where you are?

Yeah.
Depends, are you recording from a live mic, or ripping from some digital source ? or are we converting an mp3 to .wav ?
Not to mention, how long is long, .wav files eat memory and disk space. [not being compressed].

I can handle most of that. Although it's easier to transfer files of greater than 1Mb via IM than email.

Before I email, I'll just give you an idea of the project and then you can tell me if you're interested.

We do orientations - they last about 45 minutes and right now an account manager has to go to the customer and actually stand up and do them. I've created a power point presentation that can do the orientations without an account manager present (which will save tonnes of cash for remote locations) however I'm having a hard time finding somebody to do the narration - both in quality and with an acceptable accent (It will be used nationally and apparently "baaahhrr" is not an acceptable accent) In actuality it will be about 10 or so 3-5 minute .wavs that will accompany each overhead.

I don't know yet if your accent will be acceptable (though it's more than acceptable in my books!) but I thought you might have the technology - I was curious if you'd have the interest. There may be some small amount of $$'s if you're interested and my manager's will accept your accent.

Oh I see ! Yes that's excellent. [might as well get something back for my eloucution lessions].

Yes, if you send the scripts I can do the sounds. Although a technical question, wouldn't mp3 files take up less space ? I can do .wav to mp3 conversions, [the program I use for recording only records as .wav ]

Although if you don't mind just the raw .wav, I can post those to an area of my web space, and you can download it. [ Thus saving your inbox from exploding! ].

Hmmm.. and if need be I can do the mp3 to wav conversion back, though the quality will be somewhat diminshed, but not so's anybody would know.

Ok. The next question is this. I don't have permission for the $$s yet.. Are you willing to do the recording under the assumption that I will make every attempt for money and with the promise that I will not allow the company to use your voice without paying you?

Sure, it's no skin off my nose if there's a delay on the money front [just don't tell them that! ;o) ]

I'll do a couple, see what size they are panning out to be, then if necessary convert to mp3 format, but if they're a reasonable size I'll keep them as raw .wav files.

I take it the power point thingy only handles .wav ?

The most sensible way of transferring them would be for me to post them to disk storage on my server, and I'll post you a link to them. You can then do a "save target as..." [assuming you're using IE here.] That gets round email limits.

BTW, remember the story thing? I'm doing a poem for the first try out of that idea. You'll see. [may actually do a sonnet]

Ummm...

were you asking for help, or to offer to help. Just realised that it could be read either way. [D'oh!]

Just if you've got something that's better than what I'm using I'm interested in an upgrade of course...
