I betcha didn't even notice I was gone, didja? Didja?

We'll I went and I came back again.

Yes, when we last left our heroine she was off to get some surgery. I think I mentioned it in passing a couple of times but... yeah, anyway.

So the short version:

I had surgery on the 7th, I got home on the 9th. I get to stay off work now until about February 22th.

And the longer version:

On Thursday I went in for 10:00 for my scheduled full abdominal hysterectomy (Everything but the ovaries, baby) for noon. I was afraid of 3 things:
1. Not waking up from the anesthesia (I've never been under general anesthetic before)
2. Waking up and being terribly ill (who wants to be ill with a belly full of sutures?)
3. Waking up but then finding out a week or so in that they fecked up my plumbing.

By 11:30 I was on the table being told to count backwards and moments later I awoke with a decent sized abdominal dressing and a whole lot of happy, and no nausea, so tick number 1 and 2 off the list. I had to stay in recovery for longer than expected, apparently they thought my kidneys/bladder wasn't working properly, and when I'd doze off, apparently I'd stop breathing, which I've been told isn't necessarily good for a positive outcome to surgery. But a bit less narcotics fixed the breathing and a twist of the catheter by a more experienced nurse alleviated the other problem and we were on our way to recover.

I'd asked to be upgraded to a private room, but didn't get one, which sucked, but oh well. The first night I got housed with a poor l'il thing who (I believe) had suffered a partial miscarriage and had to... well... anyway. She was in rough shape, and it didn't help that the gyne floor happens to be the same as the obstetrics floor, her being surrounded by new babies and all.

The first day was sore, but I had some good drugs and they let me up and walk around a bit.

The second night I got moved to another room (so they could put two mommies with babies in my old room) with an older lady who had similar surgery to mine, but she was in for her 3rd or 4th go at it. (I didn't ask.) She was a bit of a diva, but nice enough. She had her surgery the day before mine and was hoping to get out the next day. I think she was pissed that I was planning to get out the next day as well. How DARE I be on the road to recovery more quickly than she!! Still, her husband brought me a coffee, instead of having to drink the hospital stuff, so I was most grateful. Almost made up for her sonic level snoring through the night.

I was supposed to be released on Sunday, but Saturday morning I told them I felt well, that to be clear they were going 10-12 hours before even checking on me, let alone giving me my (oral) medication (all the tubes, bells and whistles were removed the night before) and I was walking on my own. What's the point of spending the money sleeping in somebody else's bed when I could be doing all this at home?

They agreed. I went home on Saturday.

Since that time I've been taken really good care of by Dickie who has stepped up to the plate 100000 times better than I expected (and I actually expected him to step up to the plate, so that's amazing!)

I'm tired, but all of my plumbing works (though it took until today, and a whole bunch of prune juice, to get everything moving) so tick number 3 off the list.

I'm slowly getting my appetite back, but I'm tired easily and I have two strange spots inside my tummy - one on the left and one on the right, and not in the same place - that ache if I've overdone it.

And I was the proud mother of about a melon sized fibroid.

Oh and hey, guess what. NO MORE PERIODS. EVVVVVVAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

So tomorrow I see the doctor for my first check up and staple removal and then I don't need to see her again for 6 weeks - right about the time they clear me to go back to work. (Oh and my new boss knows how to do this shit right, by the way, so I can't wait to get back!)

I see a lot of rest, relaxation and maybe some Fallout in my near future.

Ok, On that note, and based on the pain in my tummy, it's bedtime.

Nighty night!

I'm glad it went mostly well. Here's to an uncomplicated recovery!
