Update to a funny story
Nov. 17th, 2014 10:40 amThe decision sort of got made for me. Kinda.
I did some more poking and decided to try a "refresh" of Microsoft, a refresh claims to "If your PC isn't performing as well as it once did, and you don't know why, you can refresh your PC without deleting any of your personal files or changing your settings."
I figured that might reset shit so that I could get back to a place where all might be good again. (Whatever "good" might be)
So while refreshing might not "delete any of your personal files or change your settings" what it doesn't say in the big print is that it will also "delete any of the programs you've installed that aren't Windows 8"
So, yup it didn't delete any of my files. But it did uninstall firefox, chrome, my anti-virus software, the whole Office suite (really Microsoft? That's your shit there. Why uninstall that?), and everything else I'd installed over the past couple of days.
What it did not do, however, was reset my 8.1 pro back to 8.1, so I was still running an unactivated version of Windows.
So I was left with the original problem, but on top of that all of the customization I did was undone.
Nice move Microsoft. Well played.
So since I had no reason to not do a clean install (sure, I'd lose all my files, but remember, I still have those backed up anyway.) I did. And so now I'm back to a nice, legit copy of Windows 8.1 and all my customization and installs have been redone.
No software to run my tuner at this point but Meh. I'll find something somewhere.
Or I won't.
Whatever.
At this point Netflix will do just fine anyway.

Date: 2014-11-17 10:27 pm (UTC)I reiterate... if you can wait for the post, I can send you a clean free legit copy of windows 7. With the media centre, although you'll need to install drivers for your hardware yourself.

Date: 2014-11-17 11:08 pm (UTC)Come to think of it, there doesn't seem to be many people making tv tuner cards now.. I suspect we're not atypical in this.
