I have an appointment tomorrow morning with the head of the business department and one of the profs to talk about how I can finish up this gawddamnned degree before I turn 90. At the rate I'm going I still have another 2 year of mostly electives. I'm done with this shit. I'm tired, and I'm ready to move on (with some letters after my name.) It wouldn't be so bad if I was learning anything, but I'm not, I can do most of these classes with my eyes shut and my marks are reflecting it. (Sorry, not meaning to brag, but I've got 15 years of business experience and an HR certification. I am not benefiting from being in a class full of 20 year olds learning about diversity management.)

In a quick phone call today he told me he doesn't see any problems with fast tracking things. What that exactly means, I have no frickin' idea, but let's pray to god whatever it means, it means I can finish up soon.

Oh... to have a life again!!

(To be clear, if I do finish, chances are good I'm going to dive right into something else - though hopefully it will have a bit of meat on it, whatever it is!)

It is possible, iirc, to test out of some classes while getting credits. Essentially, you just write the exam. I did that with intro to French at MUN.

I had a meeting with another prof today, and that was my intention when I went in, to find out what he thought I'd be able to challenge (write an exam, essay, whatever) to get the credits. I'd be happy to do that. He told me that MSVU should allow me to apply for "prior learning credits" which would just draw a line through as many as 5 credits (I have 5.5 left to go) and there's also the option of "Portfolio Assessment" which could be applied to up to 50% of the undergraduate credential.

I've been sitting here today kicking myself for not doing this sooner, but the truth of the matter is, while I've been doing job for 15 years, I've only really started coming into my own with it the last 5 years and when I started - in 2001, I was still an admin assistant and didn't know Jack.

I'm pretending the process is as much of the learning event as the education itself.

It's definitely a skill in itself, navigating academic bureaucracy.

I'm guessing that whatever you want your degree in couldn't be done online as i'm doing mine? The beauty of what i'm doing is by this december (2014) i can move on to the last phase of my schooling which for me is stopping at MSN. If the stars n moon are all aligned it can be as early as 12-2015. The super good news is more money comes with mine. I think you are doing yours just to be a super smarty pants. Right? xoxox
