It wasn't nice when I had it said to me, and you know what? I'm not so crazy about saying it either.

Today's the first time I've had to say it and had Jess really be cross at me for saying it. (Aside from don't touch the stove, it's hot, kinda things)

The first step in the journey between Me 'n Jess and Mom vs. Jess.

I'm flattered, certainly that's ok. :)

Jess is newly 7 and the cutest darn kid on the face of the planet.

Jess must look like you then, and I presume likes to sail as well. It's a genetic thing isn't it...atraction to the swift movement of a boat gliding over the water?

Actually, I'm the only one in my family that sails. It's kind of nice, actually, every Saturday I get to go out on the boat for 4 or 5 hours and it's like a mini vacation. Not vacation actually, more like... what, a mini recharge might be more appropriate.

We usually race every Saturday (during the season) and when you race you have to be extremely focused on what's going on. There are no cell phones, no nothing. You can't get back to land if you had to (unless you lost a limb and were bleeding profusely or something of course.) For four or five hours a week it's this one huge, tough adreneline rush/release/challenge that you have to meet or not bother coming back the next week - and it's all mine.

I guess I'm a bit of a nut, aren't I.

What drives you to do it, just the adrenaline rush? My brother does it and he's more or less adicted I think. He also wind surfs and gets a buzz off of that. I actually enjot windsurfing too.

Part of it's the adrenaline rush, part of it is the bragging rights(there aren't that many women who do offshore racing!) Much of it is the camradarie...

I know it sounds nuts, but when I was a kid, I could lay my hand on the boat and it would talk to me. I could hear how happy it was to be free and flying against the wind. And the energy and excitement would run up my arm and fill me. It still does, somewhat, though I think the "common sense" that comes with "maturity" kind of dulls the senses somewhat.

Please feel free to remove me from your friends list now that you have some idea what a psychopath I really am.

Don't worry, I have friends who talk to trees! :) You should be commended for accomplishing such a great skill (sailing, not talking to boats ha!) You must be very strong because it takes a lot of power to do that I think, ans fearlessness out in those waves off Nova Scotia!
