Anybody play World of Warcraft? If so, can you give me an idea of how much of a financial investment one would need to assume before one got into it?

I'm digging around for some games. I'm not usually much of a "gamer" but I've played Fallout3 and I'm just about finished Fallout New Vegas, and now I'm looking for something else. Suggestions or an idea of the cost (and the value) of WoW would be appreciated!

Can't really comment on WOW, but you might want to check out Spiral Knights. www.spiralknights.com. No initial financial outlay, no financial outlay required unless you want to (but feel free!).

I'm admittedly biased towards it, but I think you'd like it.

I played Oblivion before Fallout and loved it. Fallout was described as Oblivion with guns if that helps. I'm guessing would work out cheaper than WoW, but I don't like online games so I've never been wowed (arf). The sequel to Oblivion, Skyrim, is out in november which looks rather tasty.

I was having a chat the other day with a guy at work asking for RPG recommendations. He said Dragon Age 2 is good, though gets a bit repetitive after a while. I've got for Knights of the Old Republic but I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Depends what you're after. If you've got any specific requirements I can ask him for recommendations..

My SO got me hooked on Oblivion. We have two copies reserved of Skyrim and are chomping at the bit.

He played Morrowind, but I haven't been able to generate as much enthusiam, but I only have about 15 minutes of play in.

BTW - he will be 60 at the end of this year and I will be 63 in a few months.

If you buy WoW through battle.net you can bundle three expansions and get a discount, I believe it'll be around a hundred bucks to get you completely set up. On top of that, the cost is 15 bucks a month and I know PLENTY of nice people (Horde and Alliance) who you can play with-Mr. Cassidy is part of a pretty sweet guild.

If you are looking for other games, League of Legends (which is free), Witcher, Portal, and Portal 2 are excellent fun. Mr. Cassidy recommends Magicka, Rift (which is an MMO like WoW and only fifty bucks), and BioShock I and II. He also says that if you really like Fallout,there is a game that is going to be released soon called Deus Ex: Human Revolution that is supposed to be a lot like Fallout III.

I don't know about cost or expense per se; but I've known two people to play WoW. One put the game above all other obligations in the household (including his wife and kids), and the other almost lost his job and his marriage over it. There is actually a support group for WoW addicts, I believe. Not telling you not to play it - of course not - I just thought I'd throw in a bit of fun first-hand knowledge about it. ;)
