Anybody been following the royal rumble between Celine Dion and the City of Halifax lately? To sum it all up, Celine ain't playin' here folks.

We have a big open field in the middle of the city that we call the Commons. People play ball on it, hold fairs... all kinds of things. We also occasionally hold big open air concerts. Last year the Rolling Stones came and played on the Commons. This year it was announced after much fanfair that... drumroll please... CELINE DION will be playing the Commons.

Ok. So let's just point a few things out here shall we?

The commons is a big open air field. It gets muddy. There's no seating, except the exclusive risers on the side that you have to pay an arm and a leg for. The draw is people get to go stand in a field and enjoy the music. Sort of a mini Halifax Woodstock. Historically the bands who have played the Commons have been rock bands, because the people who enjoy the concerts don't mind the open air, standing, the mud, maybe the rain...

Celine Dion is a very big star. But her audience is.. well.. like one of our now famous journalists, David Rhodenizer, has written, "My guess is that organizers will provide more seating for this event, and/or allow spectators to bring in folding chairs. After all, this isn't the type of crowd that would smuggle in rum and marijuana. Chardonnay and cigars, perhaps."

And to be honest, a lot of people here were disappointed. A lot of people would have liked to have seen something more upbeat. Aerosmith, U2, Santana, even something Country or more Top 40. Many might have gone to see her in the Metro Centre, with stadium seating... but heck, i woudln't have gone to either, so who am I?

So now, Celine's grandfatherhusband/manager has called off the concert, saying that he's not bringing Celine anywhere she's not wanted. And there's quite a froo-froo about it. M. Angelil says the whole thing got pushed off by Rhodenizer's article where he claims that Celine was pretty much dissed within an inch of her life. (Not that she knows about it, he says elsewhere, because he hasn't allowed her to see any of the media.) The funny thing about this article is, despite the fact that Rhodenizer is obviously not a big Dion fan, he was very pro Dion concert. He says it would have been good for the city, even if he didn't want to see it himself, which (quite frankly) a lot of people think.

It's even made it to PerezHilton.com.

The whole Angelil interview can be found here It's kinda funny, actually.

I guess her heart isn't going on afterall.

If you're gonna stand around in that much cold you better believe that people want music that'll keep 'em warm!!
