Ho-Lee-CRAP it's raining out. Coming down in buckets, so to speak.

On the upside, the kid's gone camping (to a part of the province that isn't supposed to get rain today) I've just finished creating a lasagna, I have an open bottle of Merlot and a movie. Life, she's not so bad.

This just in...

I got a letter from the church I used to go to. My mother still goes there. It says:

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ...

This is an invitation to all members and friends to come and celebrate with us a special service of "roll Call" on the occasion of our 175th Anniversary on October 21 at 11:00.

(insert info about who's speaking and such)

In preparation for this special time we have found that there are many people on our membership list who no longer attend our church. Many, in fact, have moved and we have lost touch with them. we are taking this occasion as an opportune time to re-establish contact with each person who is a member of our church.

If you are worshiping at another church, we encourage you to affirm your commitment to Christ and His Church by requesting a transfer of membership.

Please take a few moments to prayerfully consider the questions on the attached sheet and choose the option that best expresses your wishes.

We would appreciate receiving your reply in the enclosed envelope by Oct 1. If no response received your name will be removed from our membership list.

And the attached says:
Please tick only one of the following:

Yes I will attend the roll call service and, by my presence, reaffirm my commitment to Christ and the Church.

No, I will not attend, but wish to reaffirm my commitment to Christ and the Church.

No, I will not attend. I am worshiping at another church and wish to have my membership transferred from the Church.

I wish to have my name removed from the membership list of the Church.

This I must think on for a bit. I have no desire whatsoever of reaffirming my commitment to Christ or the Church. At all. In fact the though kind of makes me shudder. Now s'all good for some people, and please, if you're one of those people don't take offence, but it's not my "thing" any more. I say this kind of flippantly, but really, it's not such a flippant thing. Do I say Yes, and pretend to reaffirm my commitment just to make my mother happy, and the rest of the people I know as a child, even though the commitment means nothing to me?

Do I say No... and then try to explain why?

Do I just not go and, passively have my name removed?
hmm...

On the other hand, You don't grow up in "the church" without always having some grain of it stuck in your soul somewhere. I say these things but still have an urge to look over my shoulder to see if lightning's going to strike me. But no. There's a bigger power, and She/He/It had something to do with Jesus, but S/H/I also had something to do with Allah and Krishna and every other deity on heaven and earth.

Raise the protection level of your spam filter...;-)

Just kidding!

I live in dread of having something like this happen to me, however--although I think they're afraid enough of my response that they would probably not even send me an email like that.

Tell them you've turned pagan and worship the forgotten roman gods (and goddesses). They need love too!

The combination of rain, merlot, lasagne and a movie sounds gooooood.

:-)

Blimey, spammed by a church. If it was me, I'd just write back and tell them the truth. I don't think they burn people anymore so you should be ok.

Be polite but firm, otherwise the bugger's'll keep nagging. Like seahorses. With their stupid little tails and the male pregnancies and the neighing. Bastards!

Wait, what?
