Freezing spray over open water beginning overnight and persisting on Wednesday. Temperatures near minus 2 rising to near 3 this afternoon then lowering to near minus 6 overnight.
Outlook for Thursday...Strong southwesterlies increasing to Gale force southerlies.

Gales and heavy pounding surf. Sounds like a puke-fest waiting to happen.

Spending another week doing training on the great ocean and in the outports of Newfoundland. (haven't reached Port Aux Basques yet, Em, if you get the bus now....)

Random muising to follow:

1) Apparently when I need to take the ferry across the Strait there's a prerequiste that there needs to be freezing rain and gale force winds. Nice

2) The company is going to pay the extra $45 (though they don't know it yet) to allow me to stay in the hotel room for the day while I wait for the ferry to leave (at 11 tonight) as opposed to sitting in my car, or worse yet, the ferry terminal for the day.

3) There are a couple of things I need to do to make being away from home nicer. First, I need to crank the heat in the hotel room (or ferry cabin) to as high as it will possibly go. Second, I need to purchase real milk or cream ahead of time so I can use the coffee maker in the room and not have to drink the powdered shite. Third, I take advantage of extra blankies.

4) There appears to be only ONE restaurant on either this side or the other side of the strait that knows how to make anything other than fast food, french fries, pizza or chineese food. This is the only restaurant that offers a meal that has protein, carbs *and* vegetables (without deep frying any of them - what a concept). I haven't been to this restaurant yet this trip. Hopefully (if the weather lets up) I'll get to go there for supper, but as it's about half an hour in the OTHER direction from the boat, the weather will HAVE to let up otherwise I won't have time and will need to eat deepfriedchineesepizza.

I had a cavity filled the other day and my tooth aches now. Just thought I'd share.

and here i was complaining about my five day conference coming up in vegas. at least i'll be warm!

*sends you extra down filled blankies*

can you get those little creamer filled non-refrigerated baby cup things that they tend to have at filling stations and sometimes they are flavored dealies?? or do you have refrigeration....i mean NOT just the freezing cabin.
;)

but yeah, also if you DO have refrigerators in the room you can buy some cheese sticks like the twisted mozzarella ones and breakfast bars like the strawberry filled ones and those are good for you and taste good. or better than the deepfriedchinesepizza. a bit. check out any local target or walmar, they are good at having stuff around to snack on that doesnt require cooking. like beef jerky. get the teriaki one, that's the best!

ibuprofen for the tooth.

there. all better.
*hugs*
