A child's view of war

anigoThis morning as I was doing Jess's hair there was talk on the Conflict in Iraq and she wanted me to explain to her why people go to war.
What a tough question. Why couldn't she have asked about sex instead.
So I launched into a couple of analogies.
Well, imagine if Gerome next door wanted our house and just decided to move in. We'd have to protect ourselves, woudn't we. Or what happened if we though Gerome wanted to move in to our house so we bough a lot of guns, and then Gerome saw us buying guns, so he bought more guns, then we bought more guns....
Sometimes it's not Gerome, but Gerome's great grandfather once had a fight with Our great Grandfather and then his grandfather fought with our grandfather and so on and so forth until people kinda sometimes forget exactly why they're fighting.
Then she said she's glad Canada's not at war, and asked why not. My answer was that because for the most part we're pretty peaceful people and for the most part we're usually able to figure out our disagreements without fighting.
Her response was: Yeah, we just all go to Judge Judy.
Out of the mouths of babes...

I'm thinkin' she channels all the nastiness and bad attitude through her own self.....
