I'm going to walk to Rivendell too! (Though if you don't mind overmuch, I think I'll try running it)

Starting with yesterday's 5K, I have passed Bayswater and have 732 KM left to go to Rivendell. (Sorry, the link is in miles, but I think in kms so conversion is necessary... AGGGHHHHHHH MATH!)

Little of all this, of course, reached the ears of ordinary hobbits. But even the deafest and most stay-at-home began to hear queer tales; and those whose business took them to the borders saw strange things. The conversation in The Green Dragon at Bywater, one evening in the spring of Frodo's fiftieth year, showed that even in the comfortable heart of the Shire rumours had been heard, though most hobbits still laughed at them.

In truth, it's a bit odd, since there's a Rivendale subdivision about 2 km away, so walking to Rivendale, doesn't seem like such a big deal.

Hey, if I can (mostly) row and X-country-ski it, you can run it.

Actually, I thought of you yesterday when I was on the treadmill - I managed to jog for a whole minute and was very proud of myself. I'm even prouder of you for doing five kilometres at a time.

(A jogger I ain't.)

Hey, don't sell yourself short! That's how I started. One minute running, two minutes walking. And that wasn't all that long ago, either!

(Thanks, by the way, because last night I was thinking how little I had progressed, but you're right, I'm doing 5K now!! Apparently I needed reminding)

It's the jolting of running - knocks all the breath out of me. Even when I was really fit, I couldn't run.

But man, I can racewalk like you wouldn't believe, and as for rowing? I can go forever.

It's funny how you can find a niche sport that's like that. I think I could do the backstroke right along side you as you rowed for ever.

It's just so smooth and seamless, one motion over and over, flowing. I love it.

I find it absolutely hilarious that I 'feather the paddles' while on a rowing machine, though.

We'd need to find a nice warm, flat lake to go round and round.

Ya know, it's a 30 minute walk to work from where I am now. Call it a mile a day to make the maths easy.

Think I'll get myself a walking stick.

Actually, the average human walking pace (purposeful walking as opposed to meandering) is three miles an hour - so you're probably doing upwards of two a day, at least!

Unless you're ambling along I would guess it's probably closer to 2 or 3 miles if you count both ways. I can do 1k in 10 minutes on a good brisk walk. Even assuming you're only half as fast that's 3 kms (return) which is almost 2 miles. :)
