I have to go to New Brunswick again today. I'll be there until Friday (Which happens to be my day off. It kind of ticks me that I have to travel home from a work thing on my day off.) On top of that, next week Paul was going to do my final session in New Brunswick on Wednesday - the day The Kid starts school, but because of his new position he won't be able to do it now. I was supposed to do a session in Yarmouth on Tuesday and was going to take the rest of the week off since all this travelling was over, the Kid was going to be starting school... Just kick back for a couple of days before we get rolling into September. But now he can't do it so I'll have to. Meaning, while I'll be able to see her off, I won't be around when she gets home. Pooh. On top of that, The distance between the Yarmouth session and the Saint John session is 708 Kilometers. Thats one fecking long drive. Bah.

Last night's session started late. Usually for this customer they start at 5:30 and my part goes until about 6:00. Last night didn't get started until 6:30 (though I was there at 5:30) and I didn't get home until almost 8:00. While this made me grumpy, it made the staff that were on the receiving end of the session even grumpier. And the management didn't order enough food. So imagine you're a mechanic, you've worked all day. You've been asked to stay late to listen to a bunch of Human Resource stuff that you don't give a damn about anyway, the session starts an hour later than it was supposed to *and* there's not enough food. Yeah. Tough crowd.

So I didn't bother to pack last night. I figured I'll do it in the morning - who cares if I'm a bit late. So that's what I did. Once I was ready to go I popped a couple of pieces of bread in the toaster. Just at the last second I noticed they were green. I only just bought the bread. Nice. So I left without eating and figured I'd stop on the way to work for something. I was just about out of gas and stopped at the gas station - figuring that I could grab a muffin or something in the process. When I started fueling my car I discovered I'd grabbed the diesel pumpnozzlethingie by mistake. Luckily it doesn't fit a regular gas tankfueliethingie, but in the process of doing so I got grease all over my cream coloured chords and now I smell like a diesel mechanic and the clothes in my suitcase need to be ironed so I can't change. (And my eyes are watering as I type because of the diesel fumes) I went inside, paid for my gas, got a coffee and a ham and egg muffin and left. The ham and egg muffin tasted like it had been sitting there since possibly 1985.

And shortly... the three hour drive to Moncton in what is forecasted as the edge of tropical storm Katrina with heavy rain and wind. WOOHOO!

On the other hand...

I have a job. It's royally pissing me off lately, but I'm employed enough to be able to spot Dick $200 a month so he can buy a new truck.

the 700 km between Yarmouth and Saint John alone will give me over $200 in expenses for something I'm getting paid to do anyway. That's just the one way drive. I still need to get to Yarmouth and get back from Saint John. And I'll be able to see The Kid off to school even if I'm not there for when she gets back.

It may be heavy rains and wind, but chances are all that will happen is it will make things wet. There won't be billions of dollars worth of damage.

Gas was $1.10 a litre when I filled up. It's just gone up to $1.25 in some places. So I've saved myself six whole dollars. God. $60 to fill up my car. I am going to have to seriously consider alternate ways of transportation in September.

And finally, while I've always been afraid that one day I'll inadvertantly fill my car up with diesel instead of gas, today I found out that the nozzle on a diesel pump is larger than the nozzle on a gas pump. This makes me rest a little bit easier on that possibility.
