Bah, a whole post about the race and I closed the window without posting it.
In summary:
The race was ok. We're currently 7th out of 25 boats. Better than nothing, I guess. The race itself was uneventful. Rough, 20 knots of breeze, long legs, 5 or 6 marks so there were a number of sets - all of which went well - but the boat just didn't seem to want to go fast for some reason. Still, we beat some pretty good boats.
The apres-sail rocked though. Hanging out on the boat with big tall rum and cokes, trying to learn how to whistle through my fingers with Shane (which went on for the best part of the evening - neither one of us knew how to do it. I was at least making a few whistles by the end of the evening) this is a (rather poor quality) avi file of Shane trying to whistle - sorry no sound, but he never figured it out so if you just imagine a lot of blowing and slobbering that would work. How I didn't pee my pants I'll never know. There was a corn boil afterwards put on by the skippers. (Hard to learn to whistle when you have corn stuck between your teeth)
The Boat was interviewed for a local TV spot. "The Boat" means Thom was interviewed on the wharf and the camera occasionally panned over the crew as we were rigging the boat. Apparently they'll give us a DVD copy of it which would be kinda cool.
I have a headache this morning and need to go out and buy blue shorts for today before I go. Sorry about not being in the webcam yesterday. I got a call in the morning that said that they wanted me there early for the interview thing, and then the start was actually outside the basin, so you wouldn't have seen it anyway. But we get back about 4ish.. and are back on land at 6ish (very rough estimates) so you might wanna look then.
hmmm... the whistle link doesn't seem to be working. Oh well, I'll figure it out later. It's quite large, it might be just taking a while to load.
Right now I have to go get a shower and hit walmart for a pair of shorts.
