The morning after

Richard and I woke up this morning at 6:00. I heard her chain jingle as it always does when she senses we're awake. When she knows we're awake she gets up, comes in and waits for us to get her breakfast. I kinda laughed to myself. Richard heard me and said he heard it too.

Richard's gone to help a friend shingle a roof. I cried a lot this morning. I realized that the pain is just sadness now when before it was sadness mixed with hopelessness and helplessness.

I heard her chain again even as I was typing this.

Here's a question for you:
