I've just had a horribly silly thought.



So, the pope. As I type here he's still hangin' in there, but there are apparently 15 or so Cardinals waiting in the wings to get a kick at the Crosier, so to speak.

Well, with all the hype about Reality TV shows these days, I see a block buster in the making.

Survivor XXI, Vatican City.

I'm sorry, but picturing all these guys in robes running barefoot through an obstacle course in the middle of the Holy See positively CRACKS ME UP!

Can you see them, sleeping on makeshift shelters in the middle of the Sistine Chappel? Foraging for leechie nuts on Vatican hill?

And the tribal ceremony....

And the 4th person to be voted out of the City is... Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga. Cardinal Oscar, Bring me your Mitre. The tribe has spoken.

it is a rather good idea. The question is which of the Italian trashy TV networks could do it ? ( and don't they all belong to Berlusconi ?

The tests should befit the job though.

• coming up with new dogmata,

• exorcising demons,


• blessing "urbi et orbi"


• appealing to the world community to establish peace,


• telling world religious leaders what to do,


• driving the "papamobile"


• swinging incense burners 'just right' and


• moving in robes play 'vatican rag' by Tom Lehrer in your mind when I say that)
