Just received an email from my dad. I'm in a turmoil between "damn, that's a bit on the melodramatic side, and holy shit, what if the worst happens."

Well it's a waiting game now. 3:15 pm and we all were sent home from work at noon time. People are finishing up doing last minute checks. Everyone of Perry Auto Group vehicles have been brought indoors and streets are getting deserted of traffic. The Cadillac is in the garage along with just about everything else that is not nailed down but the other two vehicles are outside and will face the elements.

Many stores have got plywood on the windows and quite a few houses have done likewise. As Elizabeth City is, it appears, directly in the path people from around here have left but we have chosen to stay and ride it out. The wind has now started to blow, it is known as a tropical wind which comes prior to the big one. Apart from the wind it is most pleasant but I fear it will be much worse before it gets better.

As I say we have chosen to stay not knowing what to expect but we have got in fresh batteries for radios and flash lights, candles, food and water. We will sleep down stairs in the hallway for protection from house damage and should the water rise we have an upper level. Still I walk around with a nonchalant attitude and say "damn the torpedoes, gimme yer worst". Perhaps by this time tomorrow it will be a different attitude.

Love to you all and will be in touch when able.

Dad
