GWB is in Halifax today. What a pain. Half the city will be closed down as well as all of the roads he's driving on - even if he chooses to take a helicopter to Pier 21 from the Airport. Traffic's gonna be horrendous. He says he's here to say thank you for taking care of people during 9-11. The ironic thing is that, yes, while we did supply comfort and lodging to many stranded travelers, Newfoundland (over ---> that way) took in considerably more. [livejournal.com profile] framlingem why can't he close down YOUR province?

Do they take these kind of precautions in the US? Does the US take care of our Prime Minister that way?

Funny things, well, funny and sad at the same time. Pierre Berton died yesterday. "Pierre Berton is one of Canada's best known personalities and arguably Canada's best-know living writer... He was correctly described as "clearly Canada's best-known and most respected TV public affairs personality"... During his career as a columnist and commentator, he has been a tireless defender of public broadcasting and the importance of Canadian content... He has been a prodigious popularizer of the Canadian experience. He may be remembered most for his many books, mostly popular histories, but he has long had an arresting television presence. " He was a dignified white haired gentleman, always well coifed and well turned out.

The funny thing is, his last television appearance was on Rick Mercer's Monday Report (You may remember Rick Mercer as the guy who makes fun of Americans) demonstrating how to roll a joint.

Ah, apparently Bush is due to arrive any minute. I must go look out the window. It's an exciting event, you know.

Our No. 1 trading partner on Planet Earth is Canada. IMHO, *all* American presidents should be visiting your country on a regular basis. We have so much in common, and so to work together on, that it only makes sense to keep the relationship going.

And yes, we DO go out of the way to protect ALL foreign heads of state with equal vigor. To not do so would be worse than foolish.

My state hasn't had a presidential visit in quite some time. Should it ultimately happen, I'll be sure to take photos. I know that not everyone was onboard with the Iraqi War, but like all things, that too shall pass.
