It's FRIIIIIDAY

anigoYes, another day off. And I think that anybody who gets up at 6:00 on a day off, goes out and braves 100 km/h winds and rain to take their kid to MacDonald's for a breakfast treat before school deserves to be nominated for partent of the year. Or, deserves to be institutionalized. Your choice.
None the less, yes, I've been up since 6:00 on my day off. And, yes, the Kid and I went to MacDonald's for breakfast before school this morning. We do it every once in a while just for kicks. She loves it and, well, I love it too. Though I don't know who on earth can stomach MacDonald's food well at 7:00 in the morning. I know it's not me for certain. My stomach feels horrible now.
It's stormin' to beat hell today. When I sail you have no wind, windy and small craft advisory. When you see small craft advisory you know it's gonna be a busy day. After small craft advisory comes gale force winds. I've only sailed in gale force winds once or twice. This makes for a very busy day. Today, the gale force winds have been upgraded to storm force. I've never sailed in storm force. I guess it's a good thing the boat is out of the water.

niffer8 to do the traditional official start to the holiday season. Christmas at the Forum is this weekend and we have gone every year for at least the past 7 or 8 years. Actually, it's been longer than that because we went long before I had the Kid. It's a huge craft/antique sale in a big old hockey arena and it's very festive. In theory we start Christmas shopping, but in actuality all we do is eat and buy cool things for ourselves, oh, and buy each other a birthday present. The drive will be icky. The parking will be icky. The walk to the forum from wherever we've had to park will be icky. But it's gonna be a hoot anyway. Dick's home all day so there's no rush to get home to get The Kid. Unfortunately once again I'm completely broke, but I'm sure I can round up enough $$'s to buy wonderous cooked meat on a stick with super amazing hot sauce from the shish kebob lady. That's really all I need.
Ok, almost 10:00 andniffer8 is supposed to be here at 11:00. I should pretend to do something other than sit here for an hour.

Date: 2004-11-05 06:07 am (UTC)My adult daughter remembers a time when she was maybe 8 and she fell off her bike (or some similar catastrophe) so I took her to McDonalds to make her feel better and it was just the two of us. That time with her Daddy was so important to her that she will always remember it. And it makes me wish I had done more things like that when I had the chance.
So, keep getting up at 6:00. You'll regret it if you don't. But by the way, I'm not sure I believe the 62 MPH winds.

60MPH winds in my part of the world = Fall, winter, spring.
90MPH is not unusual. That's a fairly standard Chinook.
And I've lived through 120MPH gusts that took a steel girder right off the highway (being built) and landed it in front of a very lucky trucker below. (Lucky because he was able to stop without destroying anything or killing himself.)

50 knots = 57.58mph = 92.6 km/h
Ok, I over exagerated by 7.4km/h, and yes, it's not sustained at 50 knots. But humour me, I have writer's licence!
But let's just go with "yes, it's windy!"

Most of my Christmas shopping is done (the boys are finished). Santa has been hounding Honey for weeks about his choice of motorcycle highway pegs. (Foot rests for the rider.)
