Once again, after checking my lottery ticket, I have found that I haven't had ONE FREEKIN NUMBER right!!!

I started purchasing them about three weeks ago - four dollars a week, two draws a week. Yes, yes, the chances of winning... save the money.. blah blah... It's my peccadillo du jour. Humour me.

So, for the past threeish weeks - or seven tickets, I havent had one number right. It's 49 numbers, you pick six and hope they pick the same six in the draw. And I haven't had one number yet.

Y'all know what this means?

It means that one of these days, due to the law of averages, I'm going to get them ALLLLLL right!

And you're all invited to the party afterwards. Drinks are on me.

if this was statistics 101 you ( and I ) would have failed it now.
(I have been doing this for longer and similar results )
However since my chances of getting rich by working honest work are at least as low , by buying a ticket I improve my chances massively.

the chance for 6 out of 49 is
49*48*47*46*45*44 to 1
or 10,068,347,520 to 1

Note : here the real big jackpots go with the supernumber option: a 7th number (last digit of the serial number of the lotto form )
Those are the ones with the 2 digit million Euro - merely six right often is only the measly 500,000 ( nice to have but not quite enough to stop working )

Also unfortunately, the odds don't change. So if you play and lose 1 million times, your chance of winning on the 1 million and first attempt is the same as it was the on the very first try.

People, you are SO missing the point here!

I've got addictions training up the wazoo, including gambling addictions. I know how the odds work.

And besides, oh yea of little faith, if you don't think positive thoughts for me, then I'll just have to take you out of my lj-will.

Now one of the grown magical features of alt.callahans was that the place itself took some phrases literally: "Drinks are on ########" fith a first person referent made one need a towel afterwards or an umbrella beforehand.
How much of this magic has been imported we don't know yet so better be careful.
Since you are (one hopes)going to be a regular AND did not come from a.c (or used a diferent handle there ) I thought I should warn you.
