Randomness for a Monday.

With Remembrance day come and gone something bugs me. I appreciate those who have fought. I have great respect. I remember. However, it bugs me to no end to hear people say these people fought for my freedom. Believe me, I totally get that people are fighting, and dying, to help others live more democratic lives. Lives with more freedom. I not only get it, I support it, if it's done right. (Sorry, hundreds of thousands of people shooting at each other randomly across trenches to me doesn't seem right. But that's another rant, perhaps.) However, I have yet to find somebody who can define how any of those people are fighting for *my* freedom. Perhaps if they don't fight the menace that they are fighting will creep into Canada and I'll no longer be free? Maybe, but it feels like a bit of an extrapolation.

None the less, I support the troops. Just annoyed a bit when people say you're dying for my freedom.

University is a farce. I am more than halfway through and I refuse to give up until I'm done, but let me tell you, University. Is. A. Farce. It's run pathetically. Professors not only don't actually have to know how to teach, most of them aren't even held accountable for how they manage their class. I pity poor inexperienced students who don't know any better. Moreso, I pity poor, experienced me who does know better and still can't do a damned thing about it other than hand them my money and suffer through with gritted teeth. Unfortunately, nobody will look at you for anything over and above head cashier at Target if you don't at least have a BA after your name, and even that's pushing it.

I had a third rant but I can't remember what it was. I'm sure it will come to me.

Oh ya. The Ant and the Grasshopper.

Yanno that story where the ant works really hard and the grasshopper screws his life away singing and dancing until winter comes and then the ant says "neener neener"?

Yeah, well, does anybody else ever notice that the ant works his ass off, then sits in his tree all winter looking outside and wishing it was warm, then when it is warm he goes and works his ass off again. The grasshopper, on the other hand, enjoys the summer, then probably goes and mooches off his friends all winter, then goes and has a good time next summer.

Ever feel like you're the ant?

That's all.

As you were!
