Once again, it is me. Or I. Or moi.

I didn't swim last night, even though I did get the requisite three amens. I didn't swim for two reasons. Three really. The first one being I'm a lazy sod. The second one being I still have this stupid cold which feels like it's gone into my sinuses and who needs chlorine soaked into already tender sinuses. And the third reason is kind of a cool one.

It was "P" night.

A friend of mine from work and I have a monthly date (And no, we don't pee on each other, get your minds out of the gutter). We have a monthly date where we try a new restaurant. Have I told you about this? Something tells me I have, except I haven't actually posted here in a million years so I probably haven't.

So what we do is this. Every month we try a new restaurant. But there are rules, you see. Every fun thing has to have rules. The rules are as follows:

1) Every month we have to choose a restaurant based on the next letter in the alphabet. (That's hard to explain in writing... but you get it. First month was A, second B, third, C, and so on and so forth...)

2) The letter can be either the name of the restaurant or the type of food/country of origin.

3) No chains/franchises allowed (so no Olive Gardens)

4) Every effort must be made to make sure the restaurant is ethnic, odd or unusual, not American/Canadian, i.e. no Mom and Pop's Diner, no Al's Pub, etc.

We've had a blast with it and have tried and discovered some incredible (and some sketchy) new restaurants. We've been to one restaurant twice, though it was a different restaurant both times - the first time it was Middle Eastern and the second time it was Fusion. We've been to Ranis Roti Hut, where we had some very dodgy but incredibly good Jamaican roti (and were surprised we didn't get food poisoning). It's all made even more interesting by the fact that my friend is a vegetarian.

Last night we were on letter P. We somehow, in littletown Halifax, discovered a Portuguese restaurant named Pipa. And really, how do you not win when you find a restaurant whose nationality *and* name start with P? Particularly when the food is to die for *and* you have a half off coupon? So I stuffed myself, and waddled home, too late and too full to go swimming.

So a little bit of fail and a little bit of yummy.

The next letter is Q, and let me tell you, finding a restaurant that starts with Q, or food from a country who starts with Q (there are not a lot of Qatarian restaurants anywhere, let alone Halifax) is going to be a challenge. There is actually a restaurant called "Q", but it is a Bar-B-Q joint and their menu consists of meat, meat covered meat, meat served with meat, and meat with a side of meat. Not a lot of fun for my vegetarian friend. Quiznos, being a chain, is not being considered.

Fun, wha?
