My computer has fallen down and gone boom.

It was acting a bit odd, not loading iTunes, so I rebooted it. (It's running Windows Vista. Of course it's going to act odd.) It powered down... and it stayed powered down. No beeps, no spinning fans, no nothing.

The only sign of life is that there's a wee led lit up on the mother board. The power supply appears to be getting power to it. Everything's plugged in externally...

In good news, the last time I had a crash I implemented a personal policy of absolutely and completely full backups every week. Slowed the system down horribly, since it's a pretty big process, but in case of worst case scenario I'm glad I did it.

My next step is to go bit by bit and make sure everything's plugged in properly and there's nothing that may have come unseated or such. (that'd be ok, let's find something unseated, ya?) After that, I'll have some decisions to make.

It may very likely be the power supply. Fine, if it is, I can take it out and put another one in. I don't want to. I'm a software girl, not a hardware girl. I would much rather have the blue screen of death. Then I could have just sat here and reinstalled and reconfigured everything. Instead I'm sitting here pushing the "on" button repeatedly and not getting one iota of response. I can figure it out, and I will, but I don't want to - particularly because power supplies are not free, and if that's not what it is (it also may likely be the motherboard) I will probably not be able to return it. Not to mention my capacity for this bullshite right now is at an all time low.

The next option may be to actually take it to somebody and get them to diagnose it. I suspect it may cost about the same as a new power supply to do this, but then I'll at least know how to proceed. Certainly helps the bullshit capacity factor.

The next question is, after I've done all that, if I do all that, how much further ahead am I as opposed to just going out, buying a new, bargain basement computer, and ripping the newish hard drive and the TV tuner out of the old one and installing it in the new one. Or, for the $150 more that it would cost me, just buying one with the tv tuner and the other odds and ends in it. That option may not be much more expensive than the previous options, and my current computer is coming up on 5 years old. At the time of purchase it was a sweet sweet ride, but now, 5 years later... And besides, even though this is the most expensive option, this also has the lowest bullshite factor. Sometimes it's worth it to pay to avoide the bullshite.

Or, maybe I'll go to bed tonight, close my eyes, have a nice sleep, and when I wake up it'll work again!!
