O sweet internet...

My highspeed currently is not so "high speed" In fact, it's more flat tire-blown radiator-cracked crankshaft speed (aka: not working) So I've gone all weekend with only the occasional hit of internet via my 100 year old laptop and its internal 32k modem. In other words, I type something in google, the little birdy in the back of the computer chisels it out onto a piece of slate and flies it off to god knows where, where they hand him the information, usually with lots and lots of high resolution pictures attached, he flies back, barely making it above the tree line, almost breaking his poor little birdy neck a couple of times, hops back in my computer and promptly dies from exhaustion, causing me to need to reboot.

I've called my ISP and we've gone through the whole falderah.

Techie: Can you reboot please?
Me: I've done that a couple of times already, it hasn't worked.
Techie: Can you do it again please?
Me: Sure
(insert 10 minute pause while system reboots)
Me: Yeah, it didn't do anything.
Techie: Can you unplug your router please?
Me: I've done that a couple of times already, it hasn't worked.
Techie: Can you do it again please?
Me: Sure
(insert another pause)
Me: Yeah it didn't do anything.
Techie: Can you unplug (something else) please?
Me: I've done that a couple of times already, it hasn't worked.
Techie: Can you do it again please?
Me: Sure
(insert another pause)
Me: Yeah it didn't do anything.
Techie: hmmm...

(repeat all of this at least twice)

Techie: Ok, we'll send somebody out on Wednesday. I can't tell you what time though.

SO I'll need to take Wednesday off to stay home and wait for the techie guy. And I won't be able to work from home because I won't have internet, and I won't be able to leave the house because I don't know when he's coming.

Sounds like fun!
