Just another day in the life...
Feb. 20th, 2005 08:47 amI have a headache. I think this is the fifth one this month, which wouldn't be odd a year or so ago, but I've been going with only about one a month now for a while. Bummer. Maybe it's the time of year or something. Luckily none of them have required much more than a little sleep-in time, a heating pad and a hand full of ibuprofin, and none of them have really lasted much longer than lunch time. Hopefully this one will be the same.
Pepper the Hamster has arrived.
Had a bit of a girl's day out yesterday looking for things for Jen's house. (Kitchen, flooring and the like) Then we went to MicMac Mall and wallowed around in there, followed by a trip to Chapters for a look for the Griffin and Sabine trilogy (without luck, I might add) and some good coffee. On the drive home we went to Pets Unlimited to get some dogfood for the greyhounds and while we were there we just happened to see the most adorable teeny tiny little grey hanster. Looks just like a toy mouse without the tail. Well, of course, he was purchased posthaste, popped in a box and off we went home. Pepper, in his box, and The Kid were both in the back seat. The Kid opened the top of the box and put her finger in, in response to which Pepper promptly got scared and bit her. The Kid dropped the box. (Not far, luckily) and Pepper scurried off under the driver's seat of the car. Let me just add that we're going along the highway at about 110kph at the time. The Kid is hysterical. I'm trying to retrieve Pepper before she becomes a little more familiar with the break pedal than she needs to be, Jen is trying to keep the car on the road... I have to say, I found it to be quite humourous. The Kid (and no doubt Pepper) did not. Just as we finally found a place to pull over I retrieved Pepper and popped her in her box. No harm done.
For the remainder of the drive I held the box and punched the little pre-cut holes out of the box so that pepper could have a little better view of the outside world (and the outside world of him!) Apparently there is a reason why the store people don't pop these holes out before they give you the hamster. Pepper made short work of the little holes, enlarging them from peek holes to patio doors in no time.
In the end Pepper made it home in one piece and is now residing in the Kid's room on top of a book case (as opposed to at dog-eye level beside her bed.) We're going to give Pepper a little bit of adjustment time before we start handling her. Poor thing's had quite the traumatic entrance into the big bad world.
Bert is now attached to the internet. He's also in full technicolour and sound. Ernie and Bert will recognize each other but they still don't talk to each other (and right now, who the hell cares anymore?) Last night Bert had a bit of a temper tantrum and got sent to his room without any supper. This morning it took a bit of coaxing to boot him up and just now he was making sounds like there's a cricket lodged inside his hard drive. Whaddaya expect for nothing, I guess.
Alright. The Kid's friend Keegan is coming over in an hour. I suppose I should probably be at least dressed when I meet his parents as opposed to looking like yesterday's breakfast.
