I can't seem to get my burner to work.

I've taken it out. I've put it back in. I've taken it out again. I've put it back in again. I've cleaned it. I've uninstalled the burning software. I've reinstalled the burning software. I've uninstalled the burning software and installed new burning software.

Dammit Jim, I'm a software geek, not a hardware geek.

Yeek! I've had my share of those type problems.

OK. Are you running Windows XP, or 98?
Have you gone into your BIOS to see if it can see your drive?
There's the jumper settings too.. I'm sure that's all set up and stuff, but you never know.

the possibility that the burner might be broken? While in theory it is possible to repair them with prices these days replacing with a new one makes more sense.

Question: does it not work at all or toast disks halfway and then brewak off or fail to recognize empty disks or , or ....

Not a real hardware geek either but I have watched a friend repair CD burners by opening the non servicable bits and cleaning ..
stillthe most economic way to deal with this ios probablöy spending the money for a new one.
