Date: 2004-08-27 08:43 pm (UTC)Are you familiar with the Callahan books? They're set in a bar on Long Island and the chalk line is what you step up to when you want to make a toast. So, on one level the "chalk line" post is Belle, making a toast. The reason for the toast? I think it'll all make sense if you read this post.
