The Weekend

Thursday was Canada Day in Canada. That's the day we don't blow anybody or anything up. Well, we do have the occasional fireworks, but that's ok, the budget for fireworks is small in Canada, and it's always cold and damp here, so we throw a couple of lit candles into the air and stare at them squintilly as they fall to the ground. (Repeat as necessary with various coloured sunglasses).

Went sailing on Thursday. I must have some ol' hormones ragin' somewhere because I did not handle sailing well. Well, I lie, I didn't handle the crew interactions well. The actual sailing was ok. Short on crew AGAIN, which is starting to become old. But I'm starting to realize that when you're called upon to do 3 jobs, and do them correctly and quickly, when you're only called upon to do your own job, it suddenly has become really easy. I was, unfortunately, easily offended and took everything personally, and that's poopy. I had the opportunity to race a second time on Shane's boat in the evening but decided to turn it down (yes, ladies and gentlemen, I turned down an opportunity to go sailing) and went home instead to hang with the 'fam' and watch the fireworks. Unfortunately, however, both The Kid and I were pooped, so we decided to have a snuggle and a nap - which lasted pretty much until long after the fireworks were over.

End of day one.

Friday was my mother's birthday. It was just me and The Kid so before we went to my mothers, we planned on taking the dog and heading out to an old historic property outside of town and doing a picnic touristy thing. But first, my sister wanted me to take her out to get a birthday present for my mother. My sister had plans for the evening and asked if we could go over to my mother's at 4:00 so she could hang with her friends in the evening. Unfortunately, she didn't get her act together to get out for a birthday present until almost 1:00, which meant it was after two before we got back. It's about half an hour's drive to the picnic site, so, needless to say, The Kid and I didn't go. We did, however, go after supper. Unfortunately the house closed at 5:00, so we weren't able to walk through it. But we did get to walk through the hiking trails and paths around the property though.

By this time it had clouded over severe thunderstorms were being forecast. So we were out on this completely deserted property covered with huge overhanging trees, a big-assed old house with lots of windows, and black clouds. It creeped me out royally, but the kid was unfazed. So walking we went. We got home just before the heavens opened and the thunder started. We hauled the sofa up to the living room window and watched the lightshow.

End of day two.

Saturday was another sailing day. And another hormone (or something else) induced day. More crew this time - we picked one old guy up at the club who claimed to know how to sail, but didn't have a clue. I spent most of my sail watching that he didn't take his finger off on a winch or take out the forestay with the spinnaker pole. We have a new rookie so I'm not the rookie anymore, and the rest of the crew has taken to him like a duck to water. I'm feeling very left out for some reason. Again, probably the hormones. I left the club thinking that maybe sailing wasn't such a great sport afterall.

End of day three.

Sunday was supposed to be a mellow day. I woke up with a bit of a headache. The Kid had a party to go to. By the time we dropped the kid off at the party my headache had turned into something raging. I was amazed I made it home before I puked. I *did* though, and after I puked I went to bed and slept for an hour and woke up without a headache. Completely gone. That has never happened before. How very odd.

We hung around the house for the rest of the afternoon and evening and went to bed whereon I felt sorry for myself (complete with tears, of course) about sailing (firmly deciding never to sail again) until about 2:00 in the morning, when I finally fell asleep.

End of day four.

So how was *your* weekend?
