aw, sucks. I live with pretty much one finger on f5, then every time something important looks like it's about to happen create a new save file. Very paranoid like that :D
Finally completed mothership zeta the other day, with is the last of the fallout 3 addons so I think I'm all done now. Twas fun, if a little long winded and gruesome in places.
I do the same. Here's the thing though. It writes the quick saves and the auto saves to a file called quicksave.fos and autosave.fos.
If you have somebody come over and you start a new game with a new character and your game save has only been a quick save or an auto save, and they do a quick save or an autosave with their character, their data will overwrite your data. When you finish your game you actually have to go in and say you want to save it as opposed to relying on the autosave or the quick save. That way it saves it as a file called (for example) Save 33 - Anigo, Chevy Chase, 14.13.10.fos. (Which, of course, won't get overwritten.)
The kid started a game and all I'd been doing is either quitting when I'd made it through a door or relying on the quick save, so her autosave overwrote mine.
I was able to recover an autosave.fos.bac file, which the forum said you can simply remove the .bac extension and it should be your game. But it isn't. On the other hand, I was able to find the autosave and quicksave files in my back up and at least I was able to restore 4 days worth of play, so now I'm only out 4 days.
Still, I've been on holiday and I've done some pretty intensive playing, so it's a shame. On the other hand, I know what I did now, so there will be lots of the right kind of saving, and I will also be super anal and create a special backup just for the fallout files.
