And in other news...

I got a new computer today.
I didn't REALLY need it. My old one's not dead yet, though it is on its last legs, so I feel kind of guilty.
Until I plugged it in and turned it on.
And it nearly knocked my chair over with it's speed and agility.
It's odd, because it's faster than snot, and it's a desktop so it's not going anywhere, but it's set up with wifi, which is only mediocre. Sitting here beside my old computer it's only getting about 1/3 of the bandwidth my old one is plugged in. I mean, I get it. Wired is so much faster than wireless, but why make a desk top computer so blindingly fast, and obviously large enough that you're not carrying it around, but equip it with a mediocre wireless adapter.
Not that it matters. One of the advantages of my old computer not being dead and my new computer having wireless is I can sit here side by side with my old computer and move files, etc. at my leisure.
Granted, I have the whole thing backed up on an external hard drive, so it's not exactly *that* big a deal, but it's still nice to be able to pop back and forth.
Once I've got it set up relatively the way I like it, I'll retire the old beast and plug this one in to the internet. THEN look out!
Still, it wasn't an expense I needed before Christmas, or before the Kid's second semester tuition was due. But it's done now.
So I might as well enjoy it.
:)
For those of you who haven't been with me for 100 years, my computers have historically had muppet names. I'm open to suggestions...
